Layla Would Have Loved Today...

Layla would have loved today...lying out on the back deck, nose up high sniffing the soft breeze...happy as a clam. Layla was my cupcake baking partner...I made the cupcakes and she got to have her photo taken with the cupcakes...and some of the time she actually got to taste a bit of frosting or just some of the cupcake. She was always willing to participate in the baking process!

Layla has been ill for more than a month since the vet discovered that she had canine dilated cardiomyopathy. This morning it got the best of her and she passed over the rainbow bridge around 3:30 a.m. Today I know that Layla has become part of that breeze I feel. RIP Layla 4.4.11...I am missing you today and forever. My heart is very sad today.

  1. I am so incredibly sorry for your loss. I had a white American BullDog Boxer mix, Ladie, (who actually looked MUCH like Layla!!) who was hit by a taxi two years ago. The loss of a pet and friend is indescribable. It will get better though and you'll have great laughs thinking about the good times with her :)

  2. Given Layla's essential work on this blog, we think the motto of Roxie's World applies: Old dog bloggers never die. They just have longer telecommutes. Safe travels, Layla, and dogspeed to your grieving humans.

  5. I am very sorry for your loss. It is never easy to lose a member of the family. We have several pets and they are all getting older...one passed away last year. It is hard. The way I try to look at it is that they are in a better place and now there is space in my home for me to care for another animal that needs it. There are so many out there that are abused and unloved. It helps me a bit to think of it that way.

  51. About a year ago we lost our Golden Retriever when he lost sight in both eyes. He loved the outdoors, and his territory was the 17 acres we live on.

Once he couldn't see and get around he just gave up, and at age 17 died. It has been hard on our whole family.

We haven't gotten another dog yet, we just can't do it right now.

Though it is heartbreaking to lose Layla here on earth, she's across that rainbow bridge frolicking and playing with many of our other dearly departed pets--Ollie, Willy, Quinn, and Arby.
Be kind to yourself and give Nigel a hug. He's probably sad to lose Layla as well.
My dog Flint will likely be in Maryland in a few days to keep you company :)

I just found your website and am inspired by your creativity.

I'm so sorry for your loss. Those of us who've had furbabies as part of our family understand the enormity of losing a family member. It sounds as though you were there to see her off. That is the most difficult, courageous. loving and selfless gift you could give Layla.

I had a cat, Chrissy, who developed kidney problems and my husband and I administered SubQ IV fluids for as long as she had quality of life before we had to say goodbye the Monday before last Christmas. I miss her still.

God bless you and that sweet faced Layla.

I'd so lOve to be able to heal your pain. All I can say is though, be happy that your Layla lived an amazing and happy life. Too many dogs don't get to share tat happiness with a wonderful person; Layla was incredibly lucky to have you. And I'm sure, she'll be forever with you and everytime you bake a cupcake or do something that she loved, she'll be there with you. Big hugs. x

I know I felt the same way about my 3bbeautiful Great Danes, especially Annie who I lost 2 years ago Feb.
