It's Time to Eat Grad-U-Ate-Tion Cupcakes!

Grad-U-Ate-Tion Cupcakes!

Working on a college campus, you always know SOMEONE who is graduating...either in the spring or winter. So, now is a great time to make graduation cupcakes. Maryland's commencement exercises are Sunday and Monday. Our commencement speaker is U.S. House Majority Leader, Steny Hoyer, who also happens to be our congressman, and a Maryland alum...class of '63!

Okay...now back to the really important items...like CUPCAKES!

This photo shows several decorated versions of the cupcakes: Hi Dad, ThX Ma, Grad, and BYE. I bought the candy letters at the local Giant and the graduation decorations at Michaels...you know...one of my favorite places...which by the way...now has Martha Stewart Craft items....Martha has a complete aisle to herself...the decorations were in the scrapbook area and are called "Jolee's By You."

The cupcakes I made are from a cake mix by Duncan Heinz... Dark Chocolate Fudge....I meant to add a box of instant vanilla pudding to the mix, but I grabbed the wrong box and added banana pudding!!! It actually turned out okay and the cupcakes tasted pretty good! I had bought some Duncan Heinz Whipped Frosting....awesome taste and easy to work with!

Last...but definitely not least...we have Layla who did graduate from doggie school, gazing at her favorite object...other than breakfast, dinner or her Frosty Paws Frozen Treats, that is!

Layla Wants to Grad-U-Ate the Cupcakes!

Hope you have a gr8 week...filled with lots of cupcakes!

Rock On, kids! CQ

I love your blog. I love cupcakes. And I'm a former DC area girl. We were up in Boston last week and I discovered a store called Johnny Cupcakes. Alas Johnny Cupcakes does not sell cupcakes but they do have some swell tee-shirts. You know, if you want to start a collection or something...!

  2. I bet it still tasted good- banana pudding is a good mix! I have never added pudding to any cake mix I used. I should try that.

Poor Layla- she looks like she's totally longing for that cupcake!

  5. I had banana-chocolate chip ice cream last night (homemade) and it was sooooo yummy! I bet the cupcakes were just as tasty.

The Layla photo is a scream. Did you mean to use that particular cupcake in the shot? Because Layla doesn't look at all happy. She looks forelon.

DC gals rock! Keep up with the 'cakes!

  6. I guess it is about time to leave a comment here at your blog. Actually, I think I really need to put a link to it into my blog, too. You truly are a cupcake queen. It's only a few months, since I discovered the joy of making cupcakes. The very 1st ones I made were for my son's kindergarten class, when it was his birthday. Afterwards they thanked me for the wonderful MUFFINS!! I guess cupcakes are not widely known here in Germany. But I'm determined to change that! Thank you so much for the constant source of inspiration. Just coming over to your blog and looking at the pics makes my mouth water.

I graduated from Maryland on Sunday, and I dyed my cupcake frosting red, black and yellow for Maryland colors. Very cute!

    Love your blog...

(p.s. My name is The Princess on my bf's blog--not trying to usurp your Cupcake Queen status!)

  8. Princess: What did you get your degree in? Did you know that the Cupcake Queen spends every week day toiling away at UM? She loves Maryland almost as much as she loves her cupcakes!

Right now I have Johnny Cupcake's silver logo necklace around my neck...I never take it off. I wish I could see his shop for real sometime!

    Hi Cupcake Queen--

I got me MEd in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages). I love that you work at UM...I used to work in the Mitchell Building!

That would be MY MEd, not "me MEd." I'm a good teacher, I swear!
